2019 Red Mountain Malbec
Right when this wine pours into your glass, you'll know it means business. Deep, dark purple color with blackberry and blueberry on the nose. On the first sip, you may be overwhelmed by the boldness of the blackberry flavors which quickly take a turn to a ripe raspberry, and finally a hint of caramel on the finish.
As the wine sits in your glass, black pepper develops a little bit on finish.

2019 Frichette Malbec, Red Mountain ($45)
From the Scooteney Flats and Quintessence vineyards, this 100% Malbec boasts a semi opaque ruby-crimson color and intoxicating aromas of blackberry, mountain blueberry, black currant, mulberry, tobacco, juniper berry, olive, violets and spiced sweet incense. The flavors, as well, are dramatic, with loads of black and blue fruits that are infused with black licorice, 85% cacao, extra dark roast coffee beans and Red Mountain scorched earth. The saturation continues on the back with macerated berries, roasted nuts, crème de cassis, blueberry preserves, moderate oak (60% new French) and stick charcoal, followed by a lingering sweet-dry tannin finish, lifted by bright fruit acids. 19+/20 points.
