2016 Petit Verdot

2016 Petit Verdot
2016 Petit Verdot

Every year we source a little bit of Petit Verdot grapes just in case the Cabernet Sauvignons and Merlots need a little muscling up on the back palate. The grapes out here on Red Mountain always get ripe and the flavors are always so intense, the Petit Verdot isn't needed for blending. So, we bottle it as a stand alone varietal for you to enjoy!

This is a big, but soft Petit Verdot.

Tasting notes

On the nose: This is going to sound crazy.... Smells like the ocean in the morning. Not the fish, but the clean, ocean mist air you get walking on a Southern California beach in a fall morning. Weird, right?

On the palate: Plum, blackberry, blueberry, lilac, and a smidge of mocha on the finish.

Rand Sealey
Review of Washington Wines

This 100% varietal wine is inky purple-crimson colored and intensely perfumed (both traits of Petit Verdot), with aromas of raspberries, blueberries, black plums, black currants, black roses, dark tobacco, mint, violets and oriental incense. The flavors mirror the aromatics with layers of deep, dark fruits that are infused with black licorice, dark cacao, French roast and stony minerals. On the back, the wine gains intensity with macerated berries, roasted nuts, dried cherries, crème de cassis and pulverized charcoal, followed by an, again, intense, lengthy, grainy sweet-dry tannin finish. The wine’s power gives it a plus. 19+/20 points.
